One year ago, I made a sacred recommitment to self-love by marrying myself in Cabo.
It was spontaneous, ignited in the stillness of a February bath ritual in 2024. I was 38, approaching 39. Some might call it a midlife crisis. I call it an expansion. An awakening.

I made a full embodied choice to reclaim what it means to live on my own terms with unconditional self-love. That was one of the vows I made. And I intend to keep it.

This daily devotion to myself, sometimes spiraling and sometimes soft, has transformed not only my own life but the lives of my clients.

I help folks navigate crisis, transitions, and relational or mental health challenges through a powerful fusion of Psychotherapy, Movement, Pleasure, Meditation, Connection, Rootwork, and Embodied Self-Compassion.

Big wins this month: I officially earned my LMFT license 🎉 But even more meaningful was stepping into the most beautiful art exhibit I’ve ever experienced—celebrating Black love, intimacy, and full self-expression. ALL ABOUT LOVE BY @mickalenethomas 🖤✨ It moved me deeply, inspiring me to reflect on where and how I need to show up artistically in my own life again.

For the longest time, I grieved over how the word therapy never fully resonated with me. While I see its immense value and how much it helps others, I’ve always felt that expressive art as therapy holds a stronger, more transformative power—for me.

This year has been about embracing that truth and stepping into a new perspective. Decolonizing therapy has shown me that healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. We can expand and redefine what it means to hold space for others, blending art, culture, and individuality into the work.

It’s been an empowering journey to finally know this: I don’t have to choose between being a therapist and an artist. I can be both. 💫

Here’s to redefining roles, reclaiming creativity, and honoring the art of healing in all its forms. 🎨🌿

August 2024: Fashioning My Shadow Work

This month, I found myself diving deeper into shadow work, with the ocean becoming my second home. My journey with tantra meditation naturally led me to the water element—a powerful force for clarity and renewal. The waves reminded me to wash away what no longer serves me and embrace the flow of life.

Exploring my astrology transits provided valuable insights into what’s to come. It’s amazing how the cosmos can act as a roadmap for self-awareness. It’s helped me to check myself before I wreck myself—and if I do wreck myself a little, that’s okay too, because I’ll always find ways to heal.

And speaking of wrecking… I couldn’t resist tearing down an abandoned sandcastle at the beach (Slide 2). Nearby kids thought it was hilarious and joined in, kicking it down with me. Sometimes destruction can be pure joy! 😂

Fashion inspo this month? Rihanna, of course, with her iconic leopard print vibes. She’s forever fab and fearless. 🐆😍

I also indulged my inner child with Sailor Moon-themed donuts from @moonbridgedoughnuts 🍩. Sharing them with my coworker, Kana, made it even sweeter. Pure joy wrapped in sugar!

Gym life became a priority, and I’m absolutely loving @clubstudiofitness! Their energizing classes, recovery room, and sauna have been a haven for my body and mind.

This month also reminded me of the power of rituals in maintaining mental health. I had a transformative consultation with @propheticsoulguideinc, exploring both inner and outer healing. It’s part of my journey to decolonize therapy and embrace the truth that healers come in many forms.

Another highlight was being invited by @ericacurrylmft to dive into Chinese medicine. I took a face reading class and later scheduled a reading. The insights into my 40s based on my nose were profound and uplifting. It’s inspiring to think about the future and how I can prepare myself now.
